I’m Kate, daughter of Julia, granddaughter of Beverly, mother of Remi & Jules.
Motherhood broke me open and carried me home to myself. As many women do, I floundered and flourished in my journey from maiden to mother but didn’t have the words or cultural understanding to normalize my experience.
Matrescence is the invisible transition our patriarchal society has taught us to ignore. Naming it, honoring it and documenting it has carried me back to my feminine power in ways that extend far beyond motherhood but fuel my parenting all the same.
Using my deep connection to and compassion for the journey from maiden to mother along with my personal experiences with traumatic birth and postpartum suffering, I am honored to create space for women to better understand and reflect on their own matrescence and guide them to compassionate and empowering healing.
I believe birth stories and the honest reflections we have on pregnancy and motherhood are an important exercise in self-liberation and soul exploration, which, beautifully, are some of the most nourishing gifts we can give to ourselves that benefit our children.
I also believe that if men birthed babies, birth stories would have their own section in the newspaper :)
The matrescence guidance and documentation I offer comes out of a 15-year career as a professional writer and is in service of women finding and honoring their truest selves, work I am honored to guide.

Mother, Matrescence guide, writer
experience & philosophy
As a matrescence guide, I work with women at all points on the journey to and through motherhood, from considering becoming a parent to surrendering to what motherhood delivers for you.
my guidance and space holding centers on you and your truth, no matter what motherhood looks like for you or how you come to it.
I bring learnings from a range of coursework, life experiences, self work, and support groups, including wisdom from my own matrescence, studies with Birth Story Medicine, personal experiences in traumatic birth and postpartum suffering, as well as the feminine experience i’ve witnessed in others through mothers groups, women’s circles, and friendships.
